I hadn't planned on going through and re-organizing my pantry this month, but when the canning happens there are no promises on anything.
As I have been processing all of my garden produce and meats I have decided that the pantry needs a bit more categorizing. I already had a closet maid shelving system installed from last year when we re-did the "room." I say room loosely as you can step into the pantry, but there is only enough space for one person at a time. Unless you are okay being really, really, really close to someone. I love the wire shelving because any crumbs, dust, etc. drops down to the floor and doesn't end up on the shelves. They last forever and are easy to adjust to different heights. In fact I decide that the food savers should live at the top of the pantry so I will be adding another shelf to give each their own designated space.
I had a large assortment of plastic boxes from the dollar store in our current pantry setup, but with the addition of a new freezer recently and our growing amount of meat, I need the plastic bins for freezer organization instead. I chose wicker baskets mostly because I like how they look and a few clear bins for the hard to reach areas so I can clearly see what is in them.
The clear lidded bins are great for storing anything up high that is not used regularly. I used them for party supplies, paper plates, and cups.
I found the drop front, wicker baskets are the perfect size for dry boxed food like pastas, rice, and mac-n-cheese.
The collapsible square boxes are great for jars and cans.
Obviously these 2 gallon jars are great for storage of dried goods purchased in bulk.
These large wicker bins are excellent for catch all items; bags of chips, random cans that you only keep one or two of,
My biggest recommendation is measure your shelves! If it's a really large shelf, start off with a couple of boxes that you like then work into others that fit the remaining space. I am attempting to use up every inch of space available and need the bins to accurately fit the area I have to do so. As you go, start with the food items that you know where they will go. Buy boxes that work for those items then add on over time.
All of the products I use are also on the recommended products page with images.
Happy Organizing!
