Dandelion Salve

Dandelions have deep historical value and were treasured by many civilizations for their medicinal purposes. Now dandelions are despised and treated as a noxious weed in lawn's around the U.S. I'm here to say no more! There are so many health benefits of dandelions from drinking to cosmetics. Dandelions uses include skin toner, circulation tonic, blood tonic, and digestive tonic. They can be ingested to treat infection and just used in general meals for salad greens, soups, wines, and teas.

The first step is get those dandelions! Pick as many as you can and then let them sit out on a drying rack for about two days. Once some of the moisture ahs left the dandelions blooms then place them in a jar and cover with oil. This is where the oil comes in. Tamanu Oil is made from nuts of the Calophyllum inophyllum. Uses are moisturization, antioxidant production, and an anti-inflammatory effect. It also stimulates collagen production to promote wound healing and has some antibacterial properties, particularly against the bacteria associated with acne. You will then place a lid on your jar and let sit in a dark location for one week.

After the week use a cheesecloth to separate the dandelions from the oil. Congratulations you now have infused dandelion oil. Once the oil is separated start heating, preferably through a double boiler method. All Natural Beeswax pearls should then be added to the oil and will melt until completely liquid. While still hot pour into your Cosmetic Jars and allow to cool before covering.

My intent is for this salve to replace chap stick and body lotion. I have seen many recipes that include a couple drops of your favorite essential oil as well! Personal preference here. I will likely add a little citrus or peppermint to the individual servings.
